Honest headline: Gabarito is genuinely under-used. There is no Awwwards SOTD, no big-brand identity, no Typewolf top-40 slot. Fonts In Use has 2 entries, One Page Love has 2, MaxiBestOf has 1. The origin story, in one paragraph

Commissioned 2017 for a Brazilian exam-prep platform. Started by Leandro Assis and Álvaro Franca, developed 2020 with Felipe Casaprima, reworked for open source in 2023 with Henrique Beier (Harbor Type). Named after the Brazilian Portuguese word for answer sheet — it was built so 17-year-olds cramming for the vestibular would find the page friendly rather than threatening, which is why it carries a full load of maths operators, set-theory symbols, roman numerals and scientific inferiors/superiors alongside a geometric sans that refuses to be cold.

Verdict: geometric simplicity without geometric coldness (curved l terminal, charming question mark, multiple figure styles); a solid all-rounder for body text, UI and web. Limits worth knowing before you commit: no italics, and no light weight — so it gets heavy at very large display sizes. Pairs suggested: Niven (headings), Pitanga, Avona / Avona Serif, Roba.

• read Nobody famous has claimed it. No dominant association to fight — but also no reference brand to borrow credibility from. You'd be setting the precedent, not joining one.
• read Every real use found sits in the same register: friendly, product-led, slightly playful, digital-first (SaaS landing page, productised service, designer portfolio, university poster). It has never been pushed luxury, editorial, or austere — that's an open lane, and also an untested one.
• watch No italics, no light weight. Plan the hierarchy around weight and size contrast, not emphasis-by-slant. If long-form editorial copy is in your future, budget for a second family.
• use The Black weight at display sizes is where it has the most personality; Regular/Medium is where it behaves like any competent UI sans.
• bonus The maths/set-theory/scientific glyph load is unusual for a free sans. If your brand ever touches anything technical or educational, that's free range most competitors' fonts don't have.
